About this day out
West Bank Park is a 16-acre urban park in Holgate, about 30 minutes' walk west of the centre of York, occupying the former site of the 19th century Backhouse Nurseries. It features mature woodland and a former arboretum with specimen trees including dawn redwoods and a giant redwood, attracting bird species such as the long-tailed tit, goldcrest and greater spotted woodpecker. The park has been awarded a Green Flag Award each year since 2006.
