About this day out

The Wye Valley Greenway is a shared-use countryside path linking Sedbury near Chepstow with Tintern via the Tidenham Tunnel, an important bat roost lit to the maximum permitted by Natural England. The path is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, while the tunnel opens in daytime from 1 April to 30 September and closes over winter to protect the bat population. Main access points are Wyedean School and the Tintern Wireworks bridge, and horses are not permitted on the path.

Accessibility: The path is intended to be suitable for walkers, cyclists, wheelchairs and pushchairs, but being a countryside path it may be bumpy in places. The tunnel gate opening is 1.2m, which should allow most users access. There is no phone signal within Tidenham Tunnel and for a short while north of it.
Parking: Free parking at Wyedean School in Sedbury at the south end (not in the main school car park on school days). At the north end, parking is available at Tintern Wireworks carpark or near Tintern Abbey. Other Chepstow options include Nelson Street, Welsh Street, Castle Dell and Chepstow Leisure Centre. No parking at the National Diving and Activity Centre (DEEP) or at Netherhope Lane, and do not park in the lanes surrounding the Greenway.
Dogs: Yes, dogs are allowed off lead provided they are under control, but must be kept on a short leash in the tunnel. Bring water for your dog, and note flea spray can kill wildlife in the pond and wetlands area.
