About this day out
The Pergola is one of the hidden delights of Hampstead Heath, overlooking West Heath, and was the dream of William H Lever (later Lord Leverhulme) and celebrated landscape architect Thomas Mawson. The Hill Garden is a beautiful landscaped garden that was formerly the private garden of a now demolished manor house. Both received Gold Awards at the 2025 London in Bloom Awards, although essential maintenance work means some areas are currently inaccessible with scaffolding on site.

Open daily from 8.30am with seasonal closing times (2026): 1 Jan–25 Jan 8.30am–3pm; 26 Jan–8 Feb 8.30am–3.30pm; 9 Feb–22 Feb 8.30am–4pm; 23 Feb–8 Mar 8.30am–4.30pm; 9 Mar–22 Mar 8.30am–5pm; 23 Mar–28 Mar 8.30am–5.30pm; 29 Mar–12 Apr 8.30am–6.30pm; 13 Apr–26 Apr 8.30am–7pm; 27 Apr–16 Aug 8.30am–8pm; 14 Sep–27 Sep 8.30am–6pm; 16 Nov–31 Dec 8.30am–3pm. May close at short notice if wind speeds of 40mph or above are forecast.
