Its permanent galleries cover maritime and natural history, social history, wartime and Scapa Flow, ethnography, and seafaring. - Limited disabled visitor access due to the age of the building. The entrance and ground floor are level, with a slight incline to the upper gallery of the ground floor. A stair lift to the Natural History collection is available, but there is no such access to the other galleries. There is a disabled-access toilet at street level. Access to the Captain's Parlour can be arranged from the pier via the custodian on duty.
