About this day out
Shapinsay is an island around twenty minutes by ferry from Kirkwall, with up to seven ferries a day. Attractions include the iron age Burroughston Broch, RSPB Mill Dam Nature Reserve, the Heritage Centre, beaches, walks and wildlife such as seals, puffins, orca and otters. The village offers a community-owned cafe, a traditional shop, a playpark and a refurbished bird hide.
