About this day out
Royate Hill is an unusual local nature reserve in Eastville, north east Bristol, situated partly on top of a former railway viaduct with wildflower meadows and woodland. The Coombe Brook flows under one of the railway arches. The embankment was constructed in the 1870s as part of the Clifton Extension Railway, and the site was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1996 after a campaign by Avon Wildlife Trust and local people.
