About this day out
Royal Wootton Bassett's best known landmark, the Town Hall, was built at the end of the 17th Century and now houses a museum. It served as a meeting room, courthouse, school and library, with a council chamber built on 15 pillars above a market goods store room and a Blind House lock-up, and was extensively restored in 1889. The Hall was given to the Alderman and Court Leet by Lady Valerie Meux in 1909, and the museum currently has a small exhibition on the history of the town hall in the Exhibition Room at The Manor House, Lime Kiln, SN4 7GJ.
