About this day out

An award-winning museum celebrating the heritage of the former Somerset Coalfield and the life of a typical Somerset coal miner and his family. Permanent displays include a Victorian schoolroom, a Co-op shop, a miner's cottage kitchen and an atmospheric re-constructed coal mine. The Museum is located in the centre of Radstock, just opposite the old pit wheel.

Accessibility: Wheelchair and pushchair friendly, with a lift to the upper galleries, level access on each floor with space to manoeuvre between displays, an accessible toilet on the ground floor, seating throughout and information boards with pictures and large font text. Assisted evacuation from the upper floor is currently unavailable in the event of a fire, so visitors unable to use the staircase are advised to restrict their visit to the ground floor. Parking: Designated disabled parking area immediately in front of the Museum entrance, with additional disabled parking spaces available in the Waterloo Road car park.
Dogs: Dogs are not allowed in the Museum unless they are working assistance dogs, which are welcome.
