About this day out
Prees Heath Common Reserve is a 60-hectare reserve purchased by Butterfly Conservation in 2006, lying between the A49 and A41 roads to the south of Whitchurch in North Shropshire. It is the only remaining sanctuary in the Midlands for the Silver-studded Blue butterfly, which can be found there in huge numbers during its flight season, and it also supports a vast array of other butterflies, moths, invertebrates, birds, plants, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The reserve is the site of a long-term heathland re-creation project on areas previously used for arable cultivation.
