About this day out
Paignton Zoo is an 80-acre zoo in Devon, home to more than 1,800 animals including Sumatran tigers, western lowland gorillas, Rothschild's giraffes, and species found nowhere else in the UK, such as the northern brown kiwi and short-beaked echidna. Tickets include daily animal talks and feeding sessions, indoor tropical and desert habitats, play areas, and nature trails, with most families spending the whole day on site. The zoo has been caring for wildlife since 1923 and supports conservation breeding and international wildlife protection work.
When to go
Opening calendar
Open daily from 10am, every day except Christmas Day, with seasonal opening times. Example (September) hours: 10:00–17:00, with last admission one hour before closing time.

- Paignton Zoo is a large, naturally hilly site, but most visitor routes can be accessed by wheelchair, mobility scooter or pushchair. Paths are a mixture of tarmac and compacted stone with benches throughout. Accessible facilities include designated parking, mobility equipment hire, complimentary carer admission, accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility. Registered assistance dogs are welcome subject to the assistance dog policy.
