About this day out
Linhouse Glen is a Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve situated south of Livingston with a mixture of habitats including heathland, native woodland on steep narrow slopes and species-rich grassland. The grassland provides cover and food for brown hares, and birds such as treecreeper, willow warbler and dipper may be seen or heard. Uncommon plants including greater butterfly-orchid and fragrant orchid can also be found, with May to August the best time for wildflowers and butterflies.

- Access is via a red cinder track from the parking area through a gap next to a large metal gate and across a wooden bridge for about 1.25 miles, or by crossing the railway at a designated crossing point; visitors must use the designated crossing and take great care.

- Parking is available in a short section of road off Murieston Road, just before a sharp right turn; from there, access the reserve through the gap next to a large metal gate.
