About this day out

The Hilton Maze, at the southern end of the Green, is one of only eight turf mazes still surviving in England. It was made in 1660 by William Sparrow to commemorate the Restoration of Charles II, and features a unicursal single winding track with no forks or blind alleys. The 53-foot diameter maze has a Monument at its centre to its creator and, scheduled as an ancient monument, was refurbished in 1998 with a grant from English Heritage.
