This former gravel pits nature reserve combines lakes, ponds, woodland and sheltered sunny areas, making it a haven for wildlife and one of the best places to see bats and dragonflies in Derbyshire. It supports declining species such as the great crested newt and black poplar, and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

- The track along the field gate entrance is in largely good condition and provides access to a bird viewing screen. Paths on other areas of the site are flat but are often muddy and unsuitable for wheelchairs.

- Park on Willowpit Lane
- Dogs
- Dogs are no longer permitted in the main area of the reserve (to protect grazing livestock and wildlife), but are permitted on a lead on the main perimeter track from Willowpit Lane to Sutton Lane.
