About this day out
Hampton Kempton Waterworks Railway is a community heritage steam railway in South West London, described as 'South West London's best kept secret!'. Trains run three times per hour on open days, and the railway hosts special events such as the Dinosaur Adventure Train. The volunteer-run railway is located on Thames Water land next to the Kempton Steam Museum.
When to go
Opening calendar
Open Sundays from March to the end of October, 10.30am to 4pm, with trains running 3 times per hour and the last train at 3.40pm; also open on some Saturdays (check website). Open Tuesdays and Thursdays (March to November, 10am-4pm) for maintenance work only, by appointment.

- The railway welcomes all wheelchair users and has been made as accessible as possible, with a slope to the platform and a carriage ramp designed with wheelchair users in mind, disabled toilet facilities on site, and volunteers available to help. Note: the footpath from Kempton Park station alongside and under the A316 is not recommended for visitors with impaired mobility.
- Parking
- Plenty of parking close to both the railway station platform and the Kempton Steam Museum. Access is via a driveway off Snakey Lane through the gate marked 'Museum Entrance'; drive 0.75 miles to the car park, with main parking on the left of the railway.
