About this day out
The Graves Gallery, the Art Deco home of Sheffield's visual art collection, sits above the Central Library on Surrey Street, just across from the Millennium Gallery. Its displays explore colour and form, identity, portraiture and the human figure through paintings, sculpture, photography, video and works on paper by artists including David Hockney, Bridget Riley, JMW Turner and Marc Quinn, alongside regularly changing exhibitions. Some collection displays are currently closed for essential maintenance while investigative works take place.

- Built in the 1930s and Grade II listed, so access for people with limited mobility is limited. There are a few steps up from street level to the library foyer, where a lift goes up to the Gallery; the Gallery itself is step free. Step-free access is also available via the Arundel Gate entrance, where porters assist via the lift. Disabled parking spaces for blue badge holders are outside the Central Library. Wheelchairs can be borrowed on request and trained assistance dogs are welcome.
