About this day out
The Gartell Light Railway is a privately owned narrow gauge railway at Common Lane, Yenston, Templecombe, Somerset, opened to the public in 1991. Steam and diesel-hauled trains run along the route of the old Somerset & Dorset Railway through the Blackmore Vale, operated with semaphore and colour-light signals from two signal boxes like a working museum of traditional railway practice. 2026 is its final year of operation.

Opening calendar
Open days: trains depart Common Lane station every 25 minutes between 10:30 and 15:55; a return journey takes approximately 35 minutes.

- Adults £10.00; Child (under 14) £5.00; Children under 3 free; Family ticket £25.00 (2 adults and up to 2 children); Senior Citizen £9.00; Dogs £3.00. Tickets allow unlimited travel on any GLR train on the day of issue.

- Two coaches are specially adapted to carry wheelchair passengers, with a ramp and staff assistance available (contact in advance to confirm). Common Lane station offers step-free access from disabled parking spaces in the large level car park, and one platform has step-free access from the ticket office, 'Pines' buffet and station toilets. There are no toilets on trains and no step-free access at Pinesway Junction, Park Lane or Tower View.
