About this day out

The Community Garden in Wharton Park was created by the Friends of Wharton Park as part of a wider regeneration scheme and stands on the site of the old park keeper's cottage. A dedicated team of volunteers cares for the garden, ensuring year-round interest and colour through vibrant planting, herbaceous borders, fruit and vegetables. Visitors can wander freely or sit and admire the planting, and the garden has been recognised in the RHS Durham in Bloom Award 'Cultivating your Community' category.
