Copythorne Common Nature Reserve is a 17-hectare site on the edge of the New Forest, made up of dry heath and acid grassland and home to reptiles including common lizards, slow worms and adders. The site brims with history, featuring dips and hollows created by the US army prior to D-Day, and is currently being restored to heathland. Woodlarks and long-tailed tits can be heard here, and spring is the best time to visit to see the wealth of insect life.
