About this day out

The Great Western Railway Museum, established in 1986 by the late Mike Rees, is housed in one of the last remaining permanent railway buildings in the Forest of Dean on the site of Coleford's railway yard. Exhibits include a restored 0-4-0 'Peckett' locomotive, an 1883 G.W.R. goods shed, a working signal box, a replica Victorian rail carriage, a Toad Brake van, and 7¼ & 5" gauge model steam locomotives. A 7¼ inch gauge miniature railway offers passenger train rides.
