The experience

About this day out

Coldharbour Mill in Uffculme, Devon is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK, having been in continuous production since 1797 and originally owned by textile producers Fox Brothers. Today it is one of the finest working wool museums, where visitors can explore 12 acres of Victorian woollen mill, boilers, steam engines and mill grounds, and see craftspeople making traditional textiles, knitting yarn and hand woven rugs. The estate includes 10 acres of wetland, wildlife and mill pond, plus an 18th century water wheel - the biggest breast-shot waterwheel still in action in the UK.
