About this day out
Catalyst is a science discovery centre and accredited museum in Widnes, Cheshire, dedicated to chemistry and the British chemical industry, home to an archive of over 100,000 historical artefacts and records. It offers interactive exhibits, science shows and hands-on workshops across galleries including the Interactive Gallery, Birth of an Industry, and a glass-walled rooftop Observatory Gallery. The attraction is housed in a Grade II listed building on Mersey Road.

Opening calendar
Monday: Closed; Tuesday and Wednesday: 10:00 - 14:00; Thursday to Sunday: 10:00 - 16:00. Last admission is one hour before closing (new operating hours from 1 January 2026).
