About this day out
Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery opened on 11th June 1874 as the Blackburn Free Library and Museum and was one of the first purpose-built free museums to open outside London. It houses collections of fine art, decorative art, Egyptology, coins, manuscripts, natural history, social history and South Asia, including Japanese prints, Christian icons and medieval manuscripts. The museum is located on the corner of Richmond Terrace and Museum Street in Blackburn.

- Full disabled access: accessible toilet on the ground floor, ramped entrance on Museum Street with handrails, a lift to the first floor and a platform lift to the second floor. One manual wheelchair is available to borrow, ear defenders can be borrowed from visitor handling boxes, and benches and seating are available in most galleries. Assistance can be arranged via the Visitor Team on 01254 667130.
