About this day out

Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum, opened to the public in July 2014 and run by the Bilsthorpe Heritage Society, holds the most comprehensive mining collection in Nottinghamshire, charting Bilsthorpe Colliery (sunk from 1925, closed in 1997) and changes in mining equipment and household items. The volunteer-run museum offers free entry, free hot drinks and free guided tours, and welcomes group and school visits with talks from an ex-miner. Its Miners' Memorial Garden commemorates miners who lost their lives down the pit.
