About this day out

Beer Quarry Caves are a vast man-made complex of underground caverns in Beer, Devon, created by centuries of hand-quarrying the famous Beer Stone, first worked by the Romans. The stone supplied 24 cathedrals including Exeter and St Paul's, plus Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, Hampton Court and Windsor Castle. Guided tours lasting one to one and a half hours take visitors through the vaulted halls and pillars, which have been likened to a vast underground cathedral.
