About this day out
Amisfield Walled Garden, on the outskirts of Haddington in East Lothian, dates from the late 18th century and is one of the largest walled gardens in Scotland. It has been restored and developed as a community garden by the Amisfield Preservation Trust and volunteers, with extensive herbaceous borders, fruit and vegetable beds, a wildflower meadow, orchard and woodland plantings. The garden is open to the public free of charge.
When to go
Opening calendar
From 1 April 2026: open Mondays and Wednesday–Sunday, 10am–4pm (closed Tuesdays). 1 July–31 August 2026: Mondays and Wednesday–Sunday, 10am–5pm (closed Tuesdays). From 1 September 2026: Mondays and Wednesday–Sunday, 10am–4pm (closed Tuesdays). Winter opening hours to be confirmed; the garden may close unexpectedly during adverse weather.

- The garden is all on one level with a short ramp up to the garden gate. All paths are surfaced with smooth whin dust and are wide enough for a wheelchair. A wheelchair is available for loan on request.
- Parking
- Parking is available just outside the garden walls.
- Dogs
- Well behaved dogs on leads are very welcome; owners must clean up after their dog and take waste home as there is no refuse collection.
