About this day out
The 1722 Waggonway Heritage Centre & Museum in Cockenzie showcases the history of Scotland's first railway, the 1722 Tranent-Cockenzie Waggonway, and its associated industries. It is run by the 1722 Waggonway Heritage Group, a voluntary association established in 2017 which has excavated the waggonway and salt pan remains and revived salt-making in Cockenzie. The museum features Cadell's Office, William Dickson's workshop, waggonway displays, historic artefacts and a gift shop.
